Jimmy Ruf (1980, Senlis France) spent the first 16 years of his life in Morocco, Egypt, Iraq, Nigeria and Croatia. From a young age he was confronted by the dichotomous beauty and horrors of humanity: from the magnificent architecture of Ancient Egypt to the remnants of conflict from the Iran-Iraq and Yugoslav wars. These formative experiences of human creation are a thread through his artistic practice.
In his latest exhibition at National 55, Jimmy Ruf has created an impressive mixed media installation through which he explores the melancholic spell of the inescapable and universal emotion of nostalgia.
Jimmy Ruf's extensive understanding of materials and consistent attention to detail pull the viewer into the artist's universe, whilst presenting his vision in aesthetically designed individual works of art.
